Paper, Spigot, Forge and Fabric Support
You choose the server software. Anything from Mojang's vanilla server to large modpacks runs on our plans, on any Java Edition version. Which one suits you depends on whether your players will install mods themselves.
Paper and Purpur
The first choice for plugin servers. Paper is compatible with Spigot plugins and noticeably faster than vanilla at chunk loading and entity processing. Purpur adds extra configuration on top of Paper.
Spigot
The foundation of the Bukkit plugin ecosystem. Some older plugins only run on Spigot; for a fresh setup, Paper performs better.
Forge and NeoForge
Most large modpacks use Forge or its successor NeoForge. Players need the same mods installed; you can upload the server files of CurseForge and Modrinth packs directly.
Fabric
A lightweight, quickly updated mod loader. Ideal for boosting performance with optimisation mods like Lithium and FerriteCore without changing the vanilla experience.
Java and Bedrock together
With the Geyser and Floodgate plugins, Bedrock players on phones, consoles and Windows can join your Java server. All you need is UDP port 19132 open.
Any version you like
Run anything from a 1.8 PvP server to the latest release. 1.20.5 and later require Java 21, 1.18 to 1.20.4 require Java 17; just install the matching Java version.
