Unturned Server Hosting

Launch your own Unturned RP city or PvP map on a Ryzen 9 9950X. RocketMod and OpenMod plugins, Steam Workshop maps and DDoS protection come with every plan. Plans start at $5.26 per month.

Unturned Server Plans and Pricing

Hosting an Unturned server is light compared with other games; a vanilla server runs comfortably on 2 GB. What really drives RAM up are the maps and mods you add from the Workshop.

How Much RAM Does an Unturned Server Need?

The Unturned server runs on the Unity engine and uses very few resources on vanilla maps. Every vehicle, weapon or building pack you add from the Workshop is loaded into the server's memory, though, and large RP maps can need several GB on their own.

Unturned servers mostly run on a single core, so clock speed matters more than core count. The Ryzen 9 9950X's up to 5.7 GHz keeps the server from falling behind in busy RP scenes.

RocketMod and OpenMod Plugins

To add an economy, kits, teleports, region protection or a job system to your Unturned server, you use a plugin framework. Two frameworks are common in Unturned communities.

RocketMod

The classic framework with the most plugins. A maintained version ships with Unturned itself in the Extras folder; copy it into Modules to enable it. Popular plugins such as Uconomy, Kits and Zaup Shop are made for RocketMod.

OpenMod

A more modern, .NET-based framework. You install plugins as NuGet packages with a command, and its compatibility layer lets you run most RocketMod plugins too.

Which one to choose?

To get going quickly with ready-made plugins, pick RocketMod. If you'll write your own plugins or build a long-term RP server, OpenMod offers a more flexible foundation.

Adding Steam Workshop Mods and Maps

You don't need to upload mod files one by one. Add the Workshop item IDs to the File_IDs list in the server's WorkshopDownloadConfig.json; the server downloads them on startup and has players download them automatically as well.

A mod's ID is the id= value in its Steam Workshop URL. If you've added a map mod, write the map's name on the Map line in Commands.dat to start your server on that map.

Lots of mods lengthen players' first connection. Removing unused mods from the list reduces both RAM usage and download time.

How to Set Up an Unturned Server

The Unturned dedicated server is installed with SteamCMD and needs a Game Server Login Token (GSLT) to be listed online. If you choose Unturned during installation, the server files come preinstalled and only configuration is left.

  1. 1Choose your Unturned plan and select Unturned during the operating system installation.
  2. 2If installing yourself, run app_update 1110390 validate in SteamCMD to download the server files.
  3. 3Create a GSLT on Steam's Game Server Account Management page using Unturned's app ID, 304930.
  4. 4In Servers/ServerName/Server/Commands.dat, set the server name (Name), map (Map), player limit (MaxPlayers), perspective (Perspective) and token (GSLT).
  5. 5Start the server with the +InternetServer/ServerName parameter; the required folders are created on first launch.
  6. 6Add Workshop mods to WorkshopDownloadConfig.json and RocketMod or OpenMod plugins to their folders.
  7. 7The default port is 27015 and the next port (27016) is used too; open both in your firewall. Players join from the server list or by IP address.

Server Settings with Commands.dat and Config.json

An Unturned server's settings live in two files. Commands.dat defines the server's identity and Config.json the rules of the game. Both are plain text; edit them over SFTP and restart the server.

Commands.dat

Server name (Name), map (Map), password (Password), player limit (MaxPlayers), difficulty (Mode), PvE mode (PvE), welcome message (Welcome) and the owner's SteamID (Owner) are set here.

Config.json

Gameplay settings such as item and vehicle spawn rates, zombie numbers and damage, structure decay, and whether players drop their items on death are kept here, separately for each difficulty.

Starting loadout

The Loadout command decides which items newly spawned players receive, helping players get into the action quickly on PvP servers.

Day and night cycle

The Cycle command sets how many seconds a day lasts. Longer days on RP servers give players time to finish their scenes before nightfall.

Running an RP or PvP Unturned Server

Unturned RP servers are usually built around a Workshop city map, job and salary systems, an economy plugin and vehicle mods. You separate roles like police, medics and gangs through permissions and take player applications on Discord. Mod counts grow quickly on these servers, so plans with 8 GB or more give you a comfortable start.

On PvP servers, smoothness comes first: smaller maps, kit and region protection plugins and frequent spawn points. Setting the perspective to first person only (Perspective First) or the difficulty to Hard gives your server its own character.

Our servers are in Frankfurt, Germany, with low latency across Europe; from Istanbul it's 30–50 ms. For players searching for Unturned servers in Europe or Turkey, that means a smooth experience close to a local server.

Why Nodesty?

An Unturned server starts out light, but as Workshop mods and players add up, it needs a fast CPU and a stable connection.

5.7 GHz Ryzen 9 9950X

Most game servers run their main loop on a single core. High clock speed keeps tick times low even when the server is packed.

L3–L7 DDoS protection

nShield's 3+ Tbps of capacity protects every layer from L3 to L7. Protection is enabled on every plan at no extra cost.

NVMe storage

Worlds, maps and databases live on NVMe drives, so saves cause fewer hitches and restarts are faster.

Pick your game at install

Choose your game when installing the operating system and your server arrives with the game software ready. Reinstall from the same screen whenever you like.

Free backups and migration

Automatic daily backups are kept for 7 days. Our team will move your server from another provider for free.

24/7 support

Open a ticket for connection, port or attack issues; our team responds around the clock.
