Installing Plugins with Oxide/uMod and Carbon
Plugins are what set your Rust server apart from vanilla: starter kits, teleports, clan systems, economies or changed gather rates. You use one of two modding frameworks for them.
Oxide (uMod)
The long-established framework. Most of the thousands of plugins on umod.org are written for Oxide. Plugins go into the oxide/plugins folder as .cs files and load without restarting the server.
Carbon
A newer, performance-focused framework. It runs most Oxide plugins unchanged with lower memory and CPU overhead, so it's worth considering for a new modded server.
Modded or vanilla?
Under Facepunch's rules, servers whose plugins change gather rates, kits or game rules must be listed in the Modded tab in-game. If you only use admin plugins, you can stay in the Community tab.
Managing with RCON
RCON lets you manage the server without joining the game. Enable web RCON with rcon.web 1 and use tools like RustAdmin to watch players, bans and the console remotely.
